"Avengers: Endgame" picks up after the devastating events of "Avengers: Infinity War," where Thanos has wiped out half of all life in the universe. The remaining Avengers—Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, and the rest—are left dealing with their grief and the immense loss. They discover that Thanos has destroyed the Infinity Stones to prevent their use again. However, when Ant-Man, Scott Lang, emerges from the quantum realm with the idea that time travel might be possible, the Avengers see a glimmer of hope.
The Avengers devise a plan to travel back in time to various points in their past to retrieve the Infinity Stones before Thanos can get his hands on them. They form teams and revisit key moments in their history, not only allowing for thrilling action but also poignant reunions and reflections on their journey. These time heists take them to events from the first "Avengers" movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy," and other significant moments, adding depth and nostalgia to their mission.
Despite numerous obstacles and some personal sacrifices, the Avengers successfully gather all the Infinity Stones and create their own gauntlet. Hulk volunteers to wear it, due to his ability to withstand the radiation, and reverses the snap, bringing back all the people Thanos had disintegrated. However, their actions alert past Thanos, who follows them to the present, leading to an epic final battle.
In the climactic showdown, every hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes together to fight Thanos and his army. Amid the chaos, Iron Man makes the ultimate sacrifice by using the Infinity Stones to destroy Thanos and his forces, saving the universe at the cost of his own life. The movie ends with the surviving heroes mourning Tony Stark's death and finding new paths forward. Captain America returns the stones to their original places in time, and chooses to stay in the past to live a life with Peggy Carter, passing his shield to Sam Wilson, the Falcon, signaling the end of an era and the beginning of a new one for the Avengers.
